Week 55

8/14/17

Oh my goodness! I love it here in Lebanon and I love Sister Blair! This is going to be an awesome transfer!
We had an awesome member drive us to Albany so I could drop Sister Williams off at the STL's apartment since she didn't get her companion until Thursday. And then I met Sister Blair in Lebanon. We got all my stuff in the car and then I realized that I left my GPS in the member's car and she had already left. We called her and needed up having to meet here at the Costco in Albany haha. We brought my things back to the apartment and Sister Blair told me about the area and the people that we are working with. Then we went to work! We don't have a big teaching pool but we are working with a couple of pretty solid people. We have two people on date for baptism. We got to talk to a lot of people this week. I still have a huge fear of talking to people, but I have definitely seen the Lord bless me with the words to say as I trust Him and talk to a complete stranger.
We were walking away from a cancelled appointment, going back to our car, and there was a group of guys sitting outside their garage, but they were mostly hidden behind cars. I heard them talking and had a strong impression that we needed to go talk to them. We walked over there and the guys we tried to talk to obviously didn't live there because they were trying to call one of their other friends over to talk to us. When he came over we did our typical introduction of who we are and why we are there. He wasn't super interested but he was nice so we started teaching him. When we introduced the Book of Mormon, his friend that seemed even less interested, seemed very intrigued. He took a copy and talked about he didn't remember the Bible ever talking about Christ coming to America but he said he wanted to check it out. We talked to him a little more and by the time we left he seemed interested in reading, he was actually flipping through the Book. Nothing has come of it yet, but it was a really cool experience.
We also had a lesson with Brian. Brian is married to a member of our ward but he is not a member. The previous Bishop referred him to us and set up an appointment. We got to know them a little better and taught the Restoration. Brian was very attentive the whole time and Bishop Fillips and his wife participated a lot which is always wonderful! He accepted the invitation to read from the Book of Mormon and pray to know its true. He said the closing prayer...that was powerful. The Spirit was so strong and he got emotional. When he finished praying, him and his wife just embraced each other for a few minutes, taking in all the feelings they were experiencing. THE CHURCH IS SO TRUE!
So many things have happened this week and I wish I could tell you all about it, but I don't have time and you probably don't want to read that much. But I really have enjoyed this first week here in Lebanon with Sister Blair. I'm really grateful to be her trainer, even though she doesn't need it. She works hard and loves missionary work.
"And now, if God, who has created you, on whom you are dependent for your lives and for all that ye have and are, doth grant unto you whatsoever ye ask that is right, in faith, believing that ye shall receive, O then, how ye ought to impart of the substance that ye have one to another." Mosiah 4:21
I came across this scripture in my studies and wanted to share it with you. God has given us everything that we have, we don't have the right to tell Him no when He asks us to give to someone else, whether that be time, money, food, etc...
I'm grateful to be serving the Lord by serving His children.
Love,
Sister MacKay
