Week 18

11/28/16

Hello everyone!! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!
It hasn't been too long since I wrote so I don't have much to say this week.
We have been having great success here in Amity! We met with an investigator who has been meeting off and on with the missionaries for a few years and she accepted the invitation to be baptized. She has to meet some qualifications so there may be some time on that, but I'm so glad she is progressing!
I got to do my first Restoration church tour as well. That was really great and it was so powerful. Rosie, who has also been off and on with missionaries for years, said that she would like o work towards baptism!
So Sis. Hartvigsen was blow drying her hair on Friday and blew a fuse and our apartment manager is never there, seriously, I don't think he exists. So we have power in only half our apartment and our oven has not been working since we got there. I guess we need to hunt our manager down. Its been fun though haha.
We were out proselyting on Saturday and we came across this lady who was bashing us from the very start and it was actually kind of fun to talk to her because we handled it really well. We never got her even close to changing her mind, but we were able to leave her on a somewhat good note. I think we brightened her day, even if it was just because she got to argue religion with us haha.
We had a real weird evening yesterday because our fancy car decided it was going to act up and not let us go anywhere. It wouldn't sense the key so it wouldn't start and it was cold and windy and raining outside so that was slightly miserable. But eventually it worked. Then our iPads and phone started acting up haha. I guess technology was not in our favor yesterday. We ended the day on a great note though because we ended up finding a less active member who has been impossible for any of the members to find. We had a great visit with her and her son. Something I love about this area is that no matter who it is, everyone we have met so far, we have really just loved!! Maybe the Lord is just answering our prayers and giving us charity, I don't know, but I like it :)
So I have been reading out of the book, The Power of Everyday Missionaries and there are some really great things in there. He talks about how you don't need to have a great friendship with someone to invite them to take the lessons or learn more about the gospel. Which is obviously true because we don't know anyone we invite. But your friendship will grow as they do learn. He also talks about how we can't fear failure (which I very much do so I need to do better) but he says that when we invite, we cannot fail because that is the only thing in our control. We can't control people's reactions, but we can control whether or not we act on a prompting from the Spirit to invite.
Mormon 9:27-28
27. O then despise not, and wonder not, but hearken unto the words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the name of Jesus for what things soever ye shall stand in need. Doubt not, but be believing, and begin as in times of old, and come unto the Lord with all your heart, and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling before him.
28. Be wise in the days of your probation: strip yourselves of all uncleaness: ask not, that ye may consume it on your lusts, but ask with a firmness unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation, but that ye will serve the true and living God.
I love you all!!!
