Hey everyone! Miracles are happening!
We had interviews with President on Tuesday and that was great! President and Sister Tateoka are so close to the Spirit and always have great advice. Sister Tateoka told me something that I really needed to hear! She told me about how on my mission I will be able to discover who I am, not as someone's daughter or girlfriend, but who I am as Sister MacKay.
We met with Brian and got to know him a bit better. He told us the whole story of how he went from not liking Mormons, to now being interested in learning more. We set expectations with him, about how as we meet and he gains a testimony, he will want to get baptized and we will invite him to do that. It was a great discussion and we will meet with him again this week. He said something that really opens your eyes (at least it did mine) to the things we hear in church. Sometimes, as members, we forget to point it back to the Savior. We talk about things we need to do, but forget to say why. He said he learned more about being a good Mormon than he did about God when he went to church. That makes me feel a little bit more like I need to pay attention to how I'm teaching, making sure I turn it back to the Savior.
We also got a super exciting message from one of our young women. She told us that her boyfriend, who is investigating the church, has a brother that wants to meet with us. He apparently watched some video that he thought would prove the Book of Mormon wrong and it ended up proving it right. Now he says he wants to ask us some questions and learn more! We are excited for that. We will be meeting with him next Monday.
We met with Rocio on Wednesday and taught the Word of Wisdom. She is so great! She has no problem with living it. Sadly, we haven't been able to get in contact with her since that lesson... we hope everything is okay. Her baptism date is March 25, coming up quick, so hopefully she gets back to us soon.
Friday morning Lynda Gipson met us at the church so she could take Sis. Hartvigsen's things to Utah for her. She planned a last minute trip down there so she surprised us with that. We miss her, but it was nice that she was able to do that. All of our appointments that day ended up getting cancelled...except for our service project. We served a special dinner at the Senior Center. I got to use a skill that I acquired at work before my mission...making coffee haha. I eventually got to do something other than make a bunch of coffee. We had so much fun serving dinner and they gave us some of the extra food, including dessert. They had a few artists bring bowls (to raise money) and we each got one.
We watched Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration with Kelly and she really liked it! She is pretty much anti religion, but we feel like the recent death of her boyfriend has opened her mind to new things. She said that she needs to read the Book of Mormon and she is willing to have us keep coming! We are so excited to keep teaching her!

We had a beautiful, sun shiny day yesterday! I love the clouds and rain but sometimes I just need some sun. Katie and her kids came again! And she is planning on coming again, she is going to go buy some skirts and dresses so she doesn't have to wear jeans to church anymore. She is also going to pick her kids up early from their dad's house on Saturday so they can come to our Meet the Mormons movie night. Her progress has really surprised us!
We taught sharing time in primary and that was so much fun. Katie's kids were the most involved haha. They love us so they wanted to answer the questions even though they had no idea what it was. We stuck around for singing time and got to learn the song, Gethsemane, in sign language. That was cool :)
We will also be participating in the Stake choir for the Easter program. I'm so excited to be in the choir, but I'm only allowed to go to two of the practices so I don't waste proselyting time. The problem with that is that we are singing Handel's Messiah and I definitely need more practice than that. Oh well, maybe the Lord will give me another miracle of knowing my parts with only two practices :)
I have some quotes that really stood out to me this week so I wanted to share them with you all.
“what [we] see and experience now is not what forever will be. [We] will not feel loneliness, sorrow, pain, or discouragement forever. We have the faithful promise of God that He will neither forget nor forsake those who incline their hearts to Him" Dieter F. Uchtdorf
“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.
“When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation … and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening--or not happening--in our lives. Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy.” Russell M. Nelson
"'...We tend to accept evil as long as it is not a shock that is thrust on us abruptly. We are inclined to accept something morally wrong if it is only a shade more wrong than something we are already accepting'" James E Faust
Love,
Sister MacKay
Spending the morning with Barbara Egan!
