Week 52

7/24/17

Happy Pioneer Day!
We had a great week this week! We have been seeing so many miracles,
big and small.
We have two apartment complexes that we go to almost everyday. There
is one apartment in one the complexes that we have felt multiple times
that we need to go there, but not yet. Finally, on Friday night, we
were walking past and felt like it was time. We starting to talking to
Angel. She was very nice but obviously not interested in talking to
us. We got a conversation going and she told us about some of her
beliefs. Sister Williams read her a scripture from the Book of Mormon
and we taught her some points in the Plan of Salvation. She slowly
started to change as we talked and she got to the point where she was
almost crying. We testified that God loves her and that our message
will bring peace into her life. She agreed to meet with us and
accepted a Book of Mormon. We are meeting with her tonight and then
will be referring her to the YSA Elders.
Our less active member, Millie, that we found a couple weeks ago, has
been making great progress. She is just so sweet and loves having us
over. She came to the Relief Society activity, our self defense class.
And she is really praying and thinking about coming back to church!
We have had so many experiences this week when we shared a message at
dinner with the members and, through their participation, the Spirit
has filled those rooms. We have been inviting all our members to
invite someone to have the missionary discussions in their home.
Nothing has come of it yet, but the members really do want to help us.
We have just been doing lots of finding, so we have been walking a
lot. It has actually been really fun to talk to people. Even though we
haven't found anyone who is interested, we have had some really great
experiences and met some really amazing people.
On Tuesday morning, we had finished a lesson with a lady in our ward
and had knocked on a couple doors and were driving away, when I saw a
guy working on his car and felt like we needed to talk to him. We
turned around and got out to talk to him. He was so nice and we had a
great conversation. We taught him about the Book of Mormon and shared
some other principles with him. He told us that he actually lives in
North Carolina and was heading back that night. I knew that we needed
to invite him to contact missionaries there so we gave him a Book of
Mormon and a pass along card with our number and Mormon.org on it. We
invited him to read from the Book of Mormon and then to either call us
so we could send missionaries to him or go to Mormon.org and request a
missionary visit. We don't know if he ever did it, but it was a really
cool experience.
We were able to join the ward for their Pioneer Day breakfast. That
was so much fun and it gave us the opportunity to get to know them
better.
We had ward council on Sunday and it was so great! We shared our
miracles and told them how much it helps us to have them involved in
missionary work. We invited them all to set that example and set a
date to invite someone into their homes for the lessons. They all
seemed much more open to the idea then they have in the past so that
gave us hope that the Lord really is working with our members and the
people in our area. Sister Williams spoke in Sacrament meeting and
gave a wonderful talk on obedience. The whole meeting was very good
and answered some questions for me. We also had a great lesson in
Relief Society about family history work.
I read the talk Tongue of Angels this week from April 2007 General
Conference. There are some things I really loved that I would like to
share with you.
"The voice that bears profound testimony, utters fervent prayer, and
sings the hymns of Zion can be the same voice that berates and
criticizes, embarrasses and demeans, inflicts pain and destroys the
spirit of oneself and of others in the process. 'Out of the same mouth
proceedeth blessing and cursing,' James grieves. 'My brethren [and
sisters], these things ought not so to be.'" Elder Holland
I love how Elder Holland reminds us of the importance of our words in
this talk. And then he quotes Elder Whitney on how we also need to be
positive all the time!
"The spirit of the gospel is optimistic; it trusts in God and looks on
the bright side of things. The opposite or pessimistic spirit drags
men down and away from God, looks on the dark side, murmurs,
complains, and is slow to yield obedience.” We should honor the
Savior’s declaration to “be of good cheer.” (Indeed, it seems to me we
may be more guilty of breaking that commandment than almost any
other!) Speak hopefully. Speak encouragingly, including about
yourself. Try not to complain and moan incessantly. As someone once
said, 'Even in the golden age of civilization someone undoubtedly
grumbled that everything looked too yellow.'" Elder Orson F. Whitney
I also wanted to share this scripture that I read and love!
Luke 9:62
"62. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the
plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
It is so important for us to focus on the gospel of Jesus Christ! The
things of the world will fade away and end, but He is everlasting. His
way brings joy in this life and His joy is eternal. Do not be ashamed
of the gospel of Jesus Christ! "For it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth."
"I want you to look around this week at how many people you see
everyday and then think about how you could just take a moment to
share the gospel with even just one of those people.
Please do not wait for anyone but the Lord to help you. He will help
you. Our individual efforts can produce a great increase in building
the kingdom of God. If just 30 percent of the active adult members of
the Church would follow this simple procedure at least once each year,
we would add 200,000 additional converts to those we are already
baptizing. Compounded, this would mean in ten years an increase of at
least 5.4 million more converts than we would have had at our present
level of member effort. If 100 percent of the active adults would
participate, we would soon start to see that every living soul can
receive the message." Elder M. Russell Ballard
I know this to be true. Your contribution matters and it will make a
difference. Please, share the gospel with someone this week and don't
be afraid to invite them to meet with the missionaries!
I love you all!
Love,
Sister MacKay
