Hello from the Pringle Ward!
I came over to Salem on Tuesday and got moved into my new apartment
and met my new companion. Sis. Voorhies is from Texas and has been out
for three months. We spent the week going to different members homes
so that I could meet them. We met with Bishop and he is just great! He
really has a desire to help the missionary work in the ward and is
open to our suggestions. He really loves this ward and I'm grateful to
have the opportunity to work with him as I serve this ward.
This new area is definitely different from Amity. It is a bigger town,
but smaller area. The work isn't really happening right now so it
needs some help. I've taken this week to really get to know what the
needs are and plan on spending the rest of this transfer applying the
revelation received this week. This area has great potential to
progress and I feel that as Sis. Voorhies and I put forth our best
efforts, we will see miracles here.
There isn't a whole lot to report on the missionary work right now. We
are teaching a 9 year old boy and he was on date for baptism June 10th
but his mom hasn't been able to get him to church the last few weeks
so we are thinking we will have to push the date.
Sis. Voorhies has a broken foot so she can't do much walking so we
spent a lot of our time going to members' homes so I can meet them. I
got to know the members of the ward council and some of our ward
missionaries. Our ward mission leader is great and really has a desire
to help, but he does work a lot so we don't get to meet with him much.
A scripture that has been on my mind a lot has been 2 Nephi 2:26-28.
I've been thinking a lot about agency and accountability. I actually
gave a training on that in our district meeting. The Lord blessed us
with the ability to choose and gave us the knowledge that we need to
make the right decision. After we choose, we will be held accountable
for that choice, we will face the consequences, good or bad.
26 And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem
the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed
from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil;
to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the
punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the
commandments which God hath given.
27 Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are
given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose
liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to
choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of
the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto
himself.
28 And now, my sons, I would that ye should look to the great
Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments; and be faithful
unto his words, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his
Holy Spirit;
Love,
Sister MacKay
