Week 53

7/31/17

What the? How are we already at the end of July?!
We have been seeing miracles! The ward continues to grow closer to us
and we have been inviting almost all the members to set a date to
invite someone into their home to meet with us. We haven't had anyone
actually do it yet, but I think the members are understanding our
purpose and their responsibility in sharing the gospel. We try to
always uplift and inspire them when we are in their homes. For
example, we went to a member's home to get something from them and
just started a conversation. Right before we left, I asked if we could
sing them a song. So we sang Redeemer of Israel on the spot for them
and it really touched them.
We did have a miracle with our less active member, Millie. She
struggles with the Word of Wisdom, which is why she stopped coming to
church, but after the few visits we have had with her and the
commitments we have extended, she has started to think about making
some changes. She talked to us about how the chapter we had her read
really touched her and then she started thinking about how God has
been letting things happen in her life so she would find Him again and
come back to the fold. She really wants to make a change. We are so
excited for her!
So we had a lesson with a new investigator and he asked us to meet him
at Starbucks. So we had a member meet us there. We didn't get much
time to talk to this guy, David, when we first contacted him so we
really didn't know what to expect at his lesson. He showed up about 15
minutes late and was surprised to see that we actually showed up. He
was very kind, ask us some questions about missionary work and then
started asking his questions about the church. He was so polite about
how he did it and it was just so he could know, he didn't try to bash
at all. We were able to teach him the Plan of Salvation and most of
the Restoration. He seemed to appreciate us taking the time to answer
his questions, but at the end, he still wasn't really interested in
taking the lessons. The member that came helped a lot, in just making
David feel comfortable and answering his questions. I'm so grateful
for members who come to our lessons.
We also had a great Zone Conference this week! We talked all about
Finding and I loved it. We learned some great ways to improve our
finding methods. It also got me super pumped to go out and find people
to teach. We have been striving to talk to everyone and it has been
really good. Most people aren't interested, but a lot of them are very
kind :)
Sister Williams is such a great missionary. She is so good at being
committed to her goals. She was very bold this week in her invitations
and in talking to everyone. I really admire her diligence. We were
talking to a lady and taught her a little bit about the Book of Mormon
and Sister Williams didn't know what else to say so she just held the
Book out and said, "Will you read from the Book of Mormon?" The lady
ended up saying yes and setting an appointment with us!
It was a very good week!!
We talked to a guy this week who would not even consider the fact that
the Book of Mormon was true and that God would give us another record.
So I decided I would do some studying as to why we have two records
and here is a scripture I found that I really loved.
"8 Therefore repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus, and lay
hold upon the gospel of Christ, which shall be set before you, not
only in this record but also in the record which shall come unto the
Gentiles from the Jews, which record shall come from the Gentiles unto
you.
9 For behold, this is written for the intent that ye may believe
that[the Bible]; and if ye believe that ye will believe this[the Book
of Mormon] also; and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your
fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power
of God among them." Mormon 7:8-9 If you believe in the Bible you will
believe in the Book of Mormon, you just have to read and pray
sincerely. I love the simplicity of how we can receive that answer!
Have a great week!!
Love,
Sister MacKay
